Ligeti Quartet play tracks from their new album Nuc, of music by Anna Meredith, at Bang on a Can's Long Play Festival.
Featuring 50+ concerts , Long Play also showcases a dense network of inventive music venues in Brooklyn – with performances at BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music), Roulette, Public Records, BRIC, Murmrr, Irondale Center for the Arts, The Center for Fiction, plus outdoor events and more. This concert is part of the Cultures of Creative Health programme; in addition to strings, Nuc features the sounds of synths, drum machines, birdsong, an MRI scanner, brass and hums, exploring the sounds we encounter as part of everyday wellbeing practices as well as in medical settings.

Hay Music celebrates 101 years since the birth of György Ligeti with the return of the superb Ligeti Quartet, highly acclaimed exponents of his work. The concert will be preceded by a 15 minute introduction by two people who knew Ligeti well: Prof Richard Steinitz OBE, author of the definitive book on Ligeti and Sally Groves MBE, who was Ligeti's agent for many years, together with a member of the Ligeti Quartet.
We are delighted that students from the Glenn Gould School will join us to perform Ligeti's Ramifications and Poeme Symphonique in our debut Toronto concert!

“Imprisoned Absence” is a close collaboration between composer, Vernon C David and scientist/poet, Banafshé Larijani, exploring the symbolic imagery of the collective conscious.
Banafshé Larijani scientist/poet is the Director of the Centre for Therapeutic Innovation (CTI-Bath), University of Bath.
Spend an evening with author, journalist, critic and BBC Radio 3 broadcaster Kate Molleson for a celebration of her book Sound Within Sound.
The evening includes a discussion of Sound Within Sound and performances inspired by the composers referenced in the book.
Ligeti Quartet return The Fire Station to play a full suite of music by Anna Meredith and Steve Reich alongside new music by three of the region’s most adventurous composers, Peter Brewis, Ross Millard & Faye MacCalman.
