The piece INHALE was written as an instinctive personal response to recent events happening around the globe - Covid19 pandemic, world-wide protests about racism and injustice and realizations about politics and power.

It was written as my own personal call for oxygen and breath during these times.

Biography

Talia Erdal (born 1991) is a cellist, singer and composer from Jerusalem, Israel.

Her musical career covers a wide range of styles. From early music and classical cello repertoire to newly written pieces, folk, jazz, rock and free improvisation, Talia enjoyed a varied and colourful career as a soloist and collaborator.

Talia is assistant principal cellist of the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra since 2017 and former principal cellist of the Tel Aviv Soloists Ensemble. She studied at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, Buchman-Mehta School of Music, Conservatorium van Amsterdam and Trinity Laban Conservatoire, London. Among her teachers are Zvi Plesser, Hillel Zori, Felix Nemirovsky, Monique Bartels, Michal Korman and Sally Pendlebury (cello), Viola de Hoog (baroque cello) and Laura Jurd (composition).

She played as soloist with the Beer-Sheva Sinfonieta, Jerusalem Strings, Tel-Aviv Soloists Ensemble, Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, Jerusalem Street Orchestra, and the Mendi Rodan Symphony Orchestra of the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance.

As a composer, Talia regularly performs her music with her Dutch-Israeli group Zenith Duo (their debut album “Yona” released March 2020) and the German jazz band Der Weise Panda.

Her performance of original music in the play „A Very Narrow Bridge“ (Chutzpah! Festival 2016, Vancouver, Canada) was nominated for a Jessie Richardson Award in the category “significant artistic achievement”.
Talia often participates in community-oriented projects such as “Mekudeshet” festival and the Jerusalem Street Orchestra.

Her playing and compositions were broadcast on the German television, BBC radio, and the Israeli classical radio station “Kol HaMusika”.
