Coreen Morsink - Time's Doorway

Time's Doorway uses techniques from ancient Greek music such as microtonality as a springboard. The title was inspired by a translation by M. L. West of a text by the ancient Greek philosopher Apollodorus.

Biography

Coreen Morsink is a Canadian/Greek composer who focuses on using ancient Greek music and unusual microtonal tuning systems as a springboard for new contemporary works. Her works have been premiered by Carla Rees, Chenoa Anderson, Karin de Fleyt, Mizuka Yamamoto, Kevin Komisaruk, the Allegri String Quartet, the rarescale trio and Flute Academy, the 432 Chamber Orchestra conducted by Ivan Yanakiev, Sarah Watts, and is currently working in collaboration with Peter Sheppard Skaerved and Christopher Redgate. She was a finalist in the Golden Hornet Smackdown V string quartet competition in Austin, Texas and first place winner in Il Volo di Pegaso Rome, Italy in February 2020 with her violin and piano duo 12:8. Her works have been performed in Canada, USA, England, Wales, Belgium, Bulgaria and Greece and on the BBC Radio 3 New Music Show. She is a teacher at St. Catherine's British School in Athens and an examiner for the International Baccalaureate Programme. She enjoys life in Greece with her husband and their two daughters and in her spare time tends her flowers and swims in the sea.
