S'iscravamentu, from Sardinian Songbook

Music is always changing - every time a melody is hummed, every time a rhythm is tapped out - and music travels with the people who share it. Ligeti Quartet presents a programme inspired by folk music from around the world. Through original compositions by established composers, the instruments of the string quartet find new words, new languages, and paint new pictures to create a new music. 

Ligeti Quartet present a programme combining works from their repertoire with those of composers from the South China Normal University:

The Ligeti Quartet performs the world première of a work by Helga Arias, commissioned by the CNDM (Centro Nacional de Difusión Musical), alongside music by Christian Mason, György Ligeti, and Anna Meredith.

Centred around music by Christian Mason and Tanya Tagaq from their recently released album Songbooks Vol. 1, Ligeti Quartet explores the sonic possibilities of string techniques inspired by throat singing traditions from around the world. York composers, past and present, make up the rest of the programme, taking inspiration from howling dogs, and the entire history of the string quartet itself.
